One Chance

http://Newgrounds

One chance is a sad story. It has really beautiful pixel art. It has multiple choices that will change the gameplay. However, it either has a sad or happy ending, depending on your choices. The gameplay is limited, yet it adds a bit of charm. You play as a scientist who has apparently discovered a cure to stop cancer. But the cure doesn’t stop there; it wipes out the whole human body and has released a virus in the air. There are sad scenes and happy scenes, mature scenes (suicide, blood messages, bloody death scenes etc) and not so mature scenes (partying, chatting with your boss etc). It turns what would usually be a bit of browser based rubbish into a really heartfelt game.

Pros
  • Heartfelt storyline.
  • Graphics and controls that give a bit of charm.
  • You get a choice on endings that are made by your decisions in the game.
  • It requires no download.
  • It’s obvious where you need to go.
Cons
  • You can only play it once.
  • The controls aren’t obvious (for future reference the action button is spacebar and the walking controls are the left and right arrow keys).

Minecraft

http://mojang

Minecraft is a first person/3rd person mining/crafting game (With a little bit of scariness and violence to make it a bit more fun). The graphics are a little on the old school side, but it is still very exciting. You might want to beware that there can be some rude comments on the play screen. Mining is extremely exciting and dangerous, in more ways than one. The whole idea of Minecraft is exciting because of mobs, random spawn points, completely unique random caves etc!!! It is also out for tablets, PC, Xbox360, Ipads and PS3. The PS3 and tablet/Ipad version are a big letdown unfortunately, with tablets/Ipads lacking most of the Minecraft thrill (and mods, texture packs etc) and PS3’s lacking mods and is just generally being extremely buggy. Minecraft’s newest version on the PC really bothers me, due to lag and the fact that I cannot download any mods or packs, not even their forge works. Minecraft Xbox 360 is the best out of the ‘Big deal consoles’ but lacks mods. It makes up for it by giving your Xbox 360 avatar some pretty amazing stuff.

  • There isn’t even a forge for anything other than PC version.

Poptropica

http://poptropica

Poptropica is a side scrolling online cartoon adventure. You go to different islands on a hot air balloon. It has limited gameplay, but makes up for that with good graphics, massive missions and brilliant island design. It was made by different authors, which means some islands are to do with the characters in the books they’ve written. Unfortunately they do not update all the islands, so a lot of the islands take a bit of getting used to, as they don’t have the same gameplay as the others. The character creation is one of the best bits of it, especially as you get to wear a vest and a pair of underwear, of course you can make your character look whatever you like. You gain extra items later on in the game. It requires no downloads, which is a benefit to your computer’s storage. The graphics are very basic and simple, yet in some islands (namely great Pumpkin Island) the graphics are beautifully hand drawn (apart from your character, who remains fairly basic).
